A native of Branson, MO, Joel relocated to Chicago in August of 2011 after seven years in New York City. He graduated from Missouri State University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art & Design and Theatre History. In 2006, he received his Masters in Arts & Cultural Management from Pratt Institute in Manhattan. Joel spent several years working throughout the New York City cultural sector in a variety of capacities including internships at Roundabout Theater Company, National Corporate Theater Fund, and Stuart Thompson Productions. At STP he worked closely with the general management firm on several Broadway productions including August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean, Julius Ceasar, On Golden Pond, and the Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Doubt. After graduation, he held marketing and administrative positions at Actors' Equity Association, the Tribeca Performing Arts Center, and BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn. During the 2008-2009 season Joel was awarded the DeVos Fellowship for Arts Management at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. During this intensive nine-month program Joel worked closely with the senior management in the areas of programming, marketing, and major gifts. As Marketing & Outreach Manager for Giordano Dance Chicago, Joel is responsible for branding and marketing strategies, graphic design, social media, institutional marketing, and program management of GDC's active outreach programs in three Chicago public schools.
