2018 wORKSHOP

EXPANDED WORKSHOP - Three Tracks

Nineteen - 1½ hour classes plus special sessions

 

Each day is filled with classes and exciting dance industry topics. Surround yourself with the energy and beauty of the Giordano Artistic Team and company. Enjoy the evenings in our beautiful city, take an architectural river boat tour, visit Navy Pier, and dine at world-class restaurants.

 

Classes will include Giordano Dance Chicago Repertoire, Ballet, Homer Bryant Floor Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz Dance History, Giordano Technique, Broadway Jazz, Partnering, Hip Hop, Latin Pulse plus individualized classes/sessions.

 

On the final day, all the tracks come together for an exciting and intimate informal performance which includes the college mentee awardees and teen Light Award winner.

 

WORKSHOP CLASSES 8:30am - 3:30pm

LUNCH BREAK 11:30am - 12:30pm

 

 

Teen Track Ages 13-17
The Teen Track focuses on technique, repertoire, and becoming a stronger dancer and performer. Special sessions include an exciting mock audition and discussions about post-high school dance paths with the GDC artistic team. Be challenged as you move one step closer to the college level.

 

Registrants in the Teen Track must be accompanied to and from the Workshop by a chaperone over the age of 21. One adult can accompany up to seven minors. Local registrants may drop off in the morning and pick up by end of day and must provide a packed lunch.

 

College Track/Pre-Professional Ages 18+

Join undergrad students and graduates from around the world. This track is designed to transition college students and pre-professional dancers into the professional dance arena with a focus on learning Giordano Dance Chicago's challenging repertoire. Special sessions for this track include improving audition skills and understanding how to prepare for a career in the Broadway, Commercial, or Concert Dance worlds.

College Audition

(for college students only)
Audition Sunday June 10, 2018 for GDC’s one-of-a-kind 2018/19 Professional Mentoring Program. Be paired with a company member of GDC to foster your transition from college into the professional dance world. Mentorships also include a 2019 workshop scholarship.

Teacher Track
For the studio owner, university professor or dance educator, this track focuses on getting back to the foundation of American Jazz Dance. Teachers will also have the opportunity to observe some of the Teen/College/Pre-Pro Tracks. Classes include Homer Bryant Floor Ballet, stretch, Giordano Technique, history of jazz, music for class/choreography, Broadway jazz, college dance programs and more! Dance as much or as little as you want.

 

The workshop culminates on Friday with an informal showcase performance.

GET BACK TO THE FOUNDATION OF AMERICAN JAZZ DANCE

This is an amazing chance to learn the essential Giordano Technique with master teacher Nan Giordano, the world's pre-eminent authority on the Giordano Technique. She has worked from the rich legacy of her father and mentor, Gus Giordano, to further develop the technique for today's athletic and sophisticated dancer. Five levels of foundational dance technique – Basic, Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced* – will each be taught in five hour sessions. Every level of the Giordano Technique provides hands-on experience and written materials needed to lead your university or studio students with material for 10 lessons.

 

NEW NGCP® Certified Teachers are invited to join a private Facebook community. Cultivate ideas, get tips from Nan, ask questions, keep in touch, and be part of the NGCP® family.

 

CERTIFIED TEACHERS Do a refresher course at any time.

*All tracks must be learned in sequential order: Basic, Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced, and Professional. Teachers can only complete two levels at a time. NGCP® sessions will not interfere with classes for the Workshop Teacher Track.

 

 

DRESS CODE
A student’s dress is a reflection of their discipline and respect for the art form. The following dress code allows our faculty to observe and correct the posture and alignment of the students. Please have a clean, elegant presentation in your look.

•  Tights, jazz pants, or biker shorts with leotard (solid color or black preferred)
•  No “Booty shorts”
•  Hair pulled back in a pony tail or bun
•  Jazz shoes
•  Please do not bring your valuables to class
